Beer & Chocolate Pairings
The Winter Beer Festival is proud to partner with Chocolate Box to present another
delectable way to enjoy beer and enhance your tasting experience by pairing beer
and chocolate.
Chocolate Box, a premier chocolate purveyor located in downtown Seattle, will
be sampling fine chocolates until 7:30pm on both days during the Winter Beer
Festival. In addition Chocolate Box will be giving a brief Chocolate 101 presentation
at 6pm on Friday and 3pm and 6pm on Saturday (tentative schedule subject to the
crowdedness of the venue).
Beer (especially winter seasonals) and chocolate pairings are a match made
in heaven largely because winter beers are typically dark, rich and full of malty
flavors that are often described as “caramel”, “toffee”, “coffee” and “chocolate”–like,
it’s no wonder they go so well with chocolate!
Just like other types of food pairing when tasting a variety of beers and
chocolates the two major flavor strategies apply- complement or contrast the
two flavors. Bold, dark beers such as Stouts, Porters, Dubbels and other dark
strong Belgian ales melt together with the intense rich dark chocolates. On the
other hand beers with fruity, spicy or floral characters often provide a wonderful
contrast to smooth, semi-sweet milk chocolates, creating a “one plus one
equals three” sensation.
Chocolate Box will be sampling following chocolates during the festival
