Five years ago, Icicle Brewing Company opened in Leavenworth, filling a strange black spot on our map of Washington's breweries. I mean, really? Leavenworth without a brewery is like a pizza without pepperoni. In case you've never been, the brewery is as gorgeous as the snow-capped mountains that surround the town. And the beers do not disappoint. Ever.

On Thursday, April 21st, Icicle Brewing will celebrate its 5th birthday with a party and beer release. This year’s release will be the 5th installment of the staff favorite, Pale Ale Project. The beer will be tapped at 11:00 am and at 3:00 pm they’ll be dishing out free pork sliders (while supplies last) followed by live music from Markus, Seth, and Vince of the Hoyer Brothers from 5:00-7:00 pm and Bluegrass from 7:00-9:00 pm.

Last time we visited Icicle Brewing we enjoyed a kickass, impromptu bluegrass jam session as we made new friends. In particular, a gregarious German man with a thick accent, who was drinking lots of fresh American craft beer. In a Bavarian-themed town. To the rustic refrain of hillbilly music. It was all a little bit surreal, but what a hoot!

The brewery describes the 5th Anniversary ale like this: "If variety is the spice of life, would that make Pale Ales the beer of life? We love the fact that this classic beer can come in all shapes and sizes and it’s our goal to explore the far reaches of this adventurous style in search of the perfect Pale."

"Hence the Pale Ale Project, which is now on it’s 5th Pale Ale (coincidentally, in our 5th year of brewing). Like all our Pales, the top-secret recipe is guarded by a half-dozen rowdy brewers armed with a bad sense of fashion and poor table manners!"
