Hopworks Urban Brewery just announced plans to open a new brewpub in Vancouver, Washington. The company, which harbors deep appreciation of bicycles and sustainable business practices, currently operates two locations in Portland: the main brewery and pub on SE Powell Blvd. and the Bikebar on N. Williams Ave (pub only). The new brewery and pub, scheduled to open this fall, will be located in Southeast Vancouver on Mill Plain Blvd.
Anyone who's been paying attention knows that the beer and brewing scene in Vancouver has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years. Chris Ettinger, the founder and brewmaster at HUB, has been paying attention.
“The beautiful city of Vancouver has a great sense of community, it’s packed with families and people who love craft beer, and it has a rich brewing history,” said Ettinger. “We have set out to deepen our roots in the Pacific Northwest and Vancouver has everything we’re looking for. We can’t wait to start brewing.”
Hopworks is recognized as a leader in sustainable brewery operations and the new location in Vancouver will further solidify that reputation. Plans for the brewery include a seven-barrel brewhouse. The initial goal is to brew 1,000 barrels of beer the first year. The brewpub will serve exclusive beers containing organic barley malted in Vancouver, and a combination of local, organic, and Salmon-Safe hops from Washington and Oregon.
The new restaurant will seat 300 patrons and will also have an outdoor beer garden. The menu will offer pub grub favorites made with local, thoughtfully sourced ingredients. The new brewpub is a Salmon-Safe Certified development and includes, among other earth-friendly features, a 10Kw solar array. The location is at the intersection of two connecting bike paths and will include plenty of bike parking.
