Last Sunday we attended the grand opening for Reuben’s Brews, the newest addition to the Ballard brewery scene. We arrived about 30 minutes early and found other beer enthusiasts already there waiting for the official opening. Within thirty minutes the place was hopping. We provide some pictures below.

The tasting room doubles as the brewery. Pretty much everything you see is convertible and the room easily transforms from a brewing space to a drinking space and vice versa. Garage doors open to the street, with the entrance on the side of the building.

Adam Robbings, the owner and brewer at Reuben’s Brews, has successfully graduated from a home brewing system to a five-barrel brewhouse that fills 12-barrel fermenters. For opening day, he didn’t have an IPA on tap. By now, I suspect that situation has been remedied. The fermenters were full of IPA when we were there. Adam didn’t seem to bothered by the lack of an IPA. He had plenty of interesting, tasty beers for the public to try.

On a warm, sunny day, the American Rye was especially delicious. This refreshingly rye wheat beer is immensely quaffable with hints of tangerine and grapefruit. The Roggenbier (a darker, German-style rye beer) and the Dry Stout also stood out, but honestly all of the beers where excellent. Stop by Reuben’s Brews and try out the beers for yourself. You won’t be disappointed. The taproom is open Thursday through Sunday.
